Route 1 is a pretty route by the shore leading you to Nuvema Town in the south; Accumula Town in the north; and Route 17 in the west. This is the first route you'll travel on in Unova, and your first opportunity to catch Pokémon. Professor Juniper will be waiting for you, and will teach the basics of Pokémon catching. You won't be able to fully explore the route and access Route 17 until you receive HM03 Surf from Alder in Twist Mountain in Pokémon Black and White. In Black 2 and White 2, this route isn't accessible until the post-game.
