Pokémon Red/Blue is part of the first generation of Pokémon games, along with Pokémon Yellow and Pokémon Green (Japan only)

First launched in Japan in 1995, Pokémon Red went on sale with Pokémon Green, soon joined by Pokémon Blue. Soon, the Red and Blue versions were translated and shipped to the US and UK. It is the subject of much speculation as to why Pokémon Green never followed suit.

The Game

Once the game is started, the player starts in the characters' home town of Pallet Town. On their way out of the town, the character is stopped by Professor Oak, the local leading authority on Pokémon. Prof. Oak takes the character back to his laboratory, and gives them the choice to have one of three Pokémon:
