Origins[]

Design[]

Foongus appears to be based on a mushroom and a Poké Ball.

Etymology[]

Foongus's name may come from fool and fungus.

The names Foongus and Amoonguss, when put together, sound like the phrase "fungus among us." This phrase dates back to at least 1958, with the song "There Was a Fungus Among Us".

Trivia[]

  • Foongus is one of four Pokémon to resemble a Poké Ball, the others being Voltorb, Electrode, and Foongus's own evolved form, Amoonguss.
  • It is the fifth Pokémon that is based on a mushroom. The first four are Paras, Parasect, Shroomish, and Breloom.
  • Like the Voltorb line, Foongus will sometimes show up as an item ball, symbolized as a Poké Ball, in the grass. Once interacted with, the "Poké Ball" will attack the player.
  • When a Foongus is mistakenly touched due to its item-like appearance on the screen, it shows a Poké Ball jump up a short length and then come down, causing a small puff of dust.
  • A Pokemon trainer has reported catching a Foongus holding a TinyMushroom.
