Bugsy (ツクシ Tsukushi) is the Gym Leader of the Azalea Town Gym. Beating him earns the player the Hive Badge. He specializes in using Bug-type Pokémon.

Appearance

Bugsy is an androgynous-looking boy with purple hair and eyes. In the original Gen II games and anime he wore a green camper's outfit (green collared shirt with green shorts suspended by a belt, brown dress shoes and white ankle socks). In Gen IV this is modified to look more like a boy scout outfit (his shirt now has different shades of green, he wears a neckerchief, and he wears yellow-striped knee socks instead).

Spinarak Bugsy's Spinarak battled against Ash's Chikorita during Ash's gym battle for the Hive Badge. Though at a type avantage, Spinarak lost

Metapod Bugsy's Metapod battled against Ash's Chikorita during Ash's gym battle for the Hive Badge. Unlike Ash's old Metapod, Bugsy's can move around. It quickly defeated Ash's Chikorita but was beaten by Ash's Pikachu.

Scyther Bugsy's Scyther appeared in a gym battle against Ash's Pikachu. With it's great speed and power it overwhelmed Ash's Pikachu, but lost to his Cyndaquil when it used Flamethrower from above. It's known moves are Swords Dance and Fury Cutter.

Trivia

• Bugsy's name is a play on the word BUG, since he is a Bug-type Pokémon Trainer.
• Bugsy is the first Gym Leader that specializes in Bug-type Pokémon.
• At first Bugsy appeared to be androgynous, until it was immediately revealed that he is a boy.
• In his HeartGold/SoulSilver artwork, he has pale skin, but in the anime and game sprites, he appears to have normal colored skin. This trait is shared with Pike Queen Lucy.
• There is a mini boss in the Kirby series with the same name, except the S is replaced with ZZ.
• In the Anime, Bugsy swapped his Kakuna from the games with a Spinarak.
